Rebecca M. Timlin-Scalera, PH.D. Dr. Timlin-Scalera received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Fordham University in New York City as well as a Professional Diploma in School Psychology. She completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship programs in Rehabilitation and Neuropsychology at the Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine at NYU Medical Center. She also completed specialized training in the areas of family and marriage counseling through NYU Child Study Center as well as in neuropsychological assessment of infants and young children through the NICU and pediatric departments at NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. Specialties include comprehensive neuropsychological assessment of Attention Deficit Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Mood and Adjustment Disorders, and Developmental Disorders. Other assessment specialties include cognitive functioning following brain injury, stroke, or the onset of dementia and other neuropsychological disorders. She provides individual, couples, and family psychotherapy through an interpersonal and insight oriented therapy approach. Structured behavioral management plans for children and social skills training are also utilized to address specific issues as needed. Dr. Timlin-Scalera has held teaching positions at the University of Connecticut and Fairfield University. Her research on issues of male adolescent help-seeking behaviors appears in the Journal of Counseling Psychology (2003), Vol. 50, No. 3, 339-350. She also contributes her professional opinion regarding current topics in relationships and health psychology to several publications including Cosmopolitan and Weight Watchers magazines. Presentations in the community and to medical and mental health professionals include issues such as parenting, help-seeking behaviors of adolescents, school crisis management, and assessment of brain injury and dementia.
